At Himalaya, we’re committed to the health of our customers. As the founders of Himalaya, we want to personally assure you that Himalaya products are safe and free of contaminants.
We take quality seriously. Knowing exactly what goes into every Himalaya cartridge allows us to guarantee the safety and integrity of our products.
In response to the recent tragic reports of vaping-related lung disease, we’ve provided the answers below to help explain the situation. We want to reassure our loyal customers that Himalaya cartridges do not pose a risk of lung damage. Enjoy without worry.
Himalaya cartridges are safe.
There is no risk that Himalaya oil contains the contaminant responsible for the recent vape-associated lung illnesses.
The lung illnesses affecting cannabis vape users were caused by a contaminant, vitamin E acetate, likely introduced in a diluent/solvent containing vitamin E oil. Himalaya does NOT contain such solvents.
Because we make Himalaya ourselves and don’t outsource production to third parties, we can tightly control quality and guarantee that the final product is clean and safe.

Is there a risk of lung damage from using Himalaya cartridges?
No. Himalaya oil does not contain the contaminants known to cause lung damage. Nor does Himalaya oil contain supposedly “safe” solvents or thinners, such as propylene glycol (PG), that could potentially be contaminated or cut with unsafe ingredients.
What’s in Himalaya oil, and how do you know it’s safe?
The compounds in Himalaya cannabis oil – terpenes, esters, flavonoids, and cannabinoids – are the same found naturally in the cannabis plant. Inhaled cannabis has a long history of safe use. Humans have smoked cannabis flower for thousands of years without a single known case of acute lung damage.
What’s the cause of the lung illness affecting users of both nicotine and cannabis vapes?
A specific contaminant, vitamin E acetate, has been identified as the likely cause of the mysterious lung illness affecting cannabis vape users across the country. Vitamin E acetate is found in vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil is perfectly safe when used orally or topically, but is known to be toxic when inhaled.
Why would cannabis vape products contain vitamin E oil?
The vitamin E oil was probably used as a diluent or thinning solvent. Cannabis vapes, when manufactured skillfully, do not require a thinning solvent. But unfortunately, low quality cannabis cartridges are often cut with these solvents.
Propylene glycol (PG) is most commonly used (and is the safest), though natural alternatives such as vegetable glycerin (VG) or MCT are also common. (Vitamin E oil is not commonly used, because it’s known to be toxic when vaped.)
We suspect widespread contamination occurred in one of two ways: (1) A large batch of vape solvent was adulterated with vitamin E oil, and then shipped to vape companies across the country, or (2) CBD oils intended only for oral or topical use, which often contain vitamin E oil, were instead sold and used as vape diluent/solvent.
Himalaya does NOT contain PG, PEG, VG, MCT, or any other vape solvent.
Other than vitamin E, are there other toxic contaminants used in low quality vapes?
Yes. Even some commonly used solvents pose significant risk. Both VG and MCT, if manufactured improperly, may contain toxic contaminants. And some vape flavorings, such as vanilla and cinnamon, may also contain specific compounds known to cause lung damage.
How does Himalaya guarantee that its products are safe and free of contaminants?
We make every Himalaya cartridge ourselves, so we control exactly what ends up in every Himalaya product.
A surprising number of cannabis cartridges are “white labeled”: the company selling them owns the brand but outsources the extraction, formulation, filling and packaging to somebody else. It’s impossible to know what’s in the oil, where it came from, or how it was made.
Not at Himalaya. We do not rely on third-party contractors to formulate our oil or fill our cartridges. Nor do we buy “vape ready” oil from other manufacturers. Because we do all that in-house, we can control the quality and be 100% certain of the integrity of every Himalaya cartridge.
Our talented team includes PhD chemists, experienced university research lab managers, trained chemical and mechanical engineers, and the odd pot farmer - all dedicated to making a safe, clean product.
Finally, note that every batch of Himalaya is independently lab tested at ANRESCO, a laboratory with over 75 years of experience testing agricultural products for contamination.
